TITLE: Chris Angell Summer Classic Tennis Tournament – June 1 and 2

Ellsworth, Maine– Bar Harbor Bank & Trust is sponsoring the Chris Angell Summer Classic tennis tournament being held on the weekend of June 1 and 2, 2013. This USTA sanctioned boys/girls 16 over and 18 over singles and doubles tournament will be played at the Ellsworth Tennis Center at 35 Eastward Lane in Ellsworth. “This is the first year of this tournament and one of the few junior tournaments to be held in Downeast Maine,” said Chip Angell, Tournament Director. The tournament Is named for Chris Angell who taught tennis at the Ellsworth Tennis Center. Chris passes away last year. He was the #1 ranked Men’s tennis player in Maine for the past two years and top ten in New England. As a scholarship athlete at Indiana, he was named all Big Ten his sophomore year. He reached a ranking of 33 nationally by the NCAA and played briefly on the pro satellite circuit. Chris had a life long battle with Schizophrenia.

The tournament is co-hosted by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI, Maine) and Maine Tennis Foundation. NAMI, Maine will host a luncheon free for all the layers, their parents and spectators around noon on Saturday June 1. Funds raised by the event will go to NAMI, Maine, a 501c nonprofit corporation, and the Maine Tennis Foundation.

NAMI-Maine is a grassroots, non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of everyone affected by mental illness. Services are provided both directly, and through a statewide structure of local affiliates and support groups. They advocate for improved quality of services; educate, inform, and provide resources; and raise public awareness and promote understanding of mental illness. They believe that no family or person living with mental illness in Maine needs to be alone. NAMI Maine families and individuals living with a mental illness are there to help. They understand and want to help others meet the challenges and face the struggles that are so apparent when dealing with mental illness.
