Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Commemoration in Bangor Sunday, January 19th

A children’s program, potluck, and discussion will be held to commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday on Sunday, January 19th at the Peace & Justice Center of Eastern Maine, 96 Harlow Street, Bangor.

A Children’s program, potluck and discussion will be held as part of a Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Commemoration to be held on Sunday, January l9th at the Peace & Justice Center of Eastern Maine, 96 Harlow Street, Bangor.

A program for children ages 5-12 will kick off the commemoration from 3:15 to 4:45 p.m. Volunteers will lead young participants in a variety of activities related to Dr. King’s lessons for today, emphasizing non-violent communication and respect. Pre- registration is not required.

The vegetarian potluck will begin at 5:00 p.m. and will be followed at 6:00 p.m. by a short presentation about the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Nelson Mandela by Doug Allen, education committee coordinator for the Peace & Justice Center and philosophy professor at the University of Maine. All are invited to join in the discussion. Bring a vegetarian dish to share.
