Mary K. Spencer has been a professional potter since 1983 following a dream she had since high school. She and her husband, Jeff, started with a small studio in Connecticut and now have a studio and gallery in Litchfield, Maine.
She originally started making very traditional functional pottery. Their move to Maine in 1986 proved to be very beneficial in helping her tone her skills on the potter’s wheel without the burden of running a business. She began “painting” with glazes on stoneware pottery after taking a series of watercolor classes. This is where “my new love for painting and old love for clay married”.
Mary and her beautiful but practical pottery will be at Arts in the Park in Belfast on July 12 and 13.
