Bangor, ME – Care & Comfort and the administrative staff of their Bangor Branch recently presented the Penquis Head Start Program a gift from their Jean Fund.
The Jean Fund is an ongoing collaborative fundraising effort between Care & Comfort and its employees. Every Friday is Jean Day and the company lets staff leave their normal work attire at home and wear jeans on for a $2.00 donation. The company matches every dollar raised and the employees of each branch select the local beneficiary semi-annually. “Our staff always gives careful consideration as to who the recipients will be”, says Susan D. Giguere Care & Comfort’s Founder and CEO. She added “I’m always pleased with their choice, especially so with the selection of Penquis Head Start. Their early childhood education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services provided to low-income children and their families positively influence so many lives in ways that can last a lifetime. We all want to support healthy, educated and vibrant communities not only today but also for future generations.”
Head Start is a federal program that promotes the school readiness of children ages birth to five from low-income families by enhancing their cognitive, social, and emotional development. Funding for the program is provided for in part by grants from The Office of Head Start, within the Administration of Children and Families of the Department of Health and Human Services and other public and private sources.
Accepting the gift was Susan E. Burgess, LCPC, Penquis Child Development Special Services Manager who said, “The staff and families of Penquis Child Development are very grateful to Care & Comfort and their staff for this generous donation to our program. We have faced many funding cuts over the last couple of years, so this donation will assist us in having the materials needed in our classrooms and support educational activities we provide for the children.”
