‘Camelot’ debuts in Bar Harbor

BAR HARBOR — Return to the fabled days of Camelot with Acadia Community Theater (ACT) this weekend. Love, honor, tragedy and betrayal are all to be had, along with fabulous music and terrific performances with this local production of the Broadway classic, starring Danielle Shepard as Guinevere, Pete Nelson as King Arthur and Geoff Wood as Lancelot.

Performances of “Camelot” at the Mount Desert Island High School theater are: Friday, April 12 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, April 13 at 1 p.m.; Saturday, April 13 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 14 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $13 for adults, $11 for senior citizens, and $9 for those 12 and younger. Call 610-2355 for tickets to these performances. Due to technical difficulties, the number previously published online for these tickets in print, on Facebook and on ACT’s webpage is not correct.

The show moves to The Grand Auditorium in Ellsworth for performances on Friday, April 26, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, April 27, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 28, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $13 for adults, $11 for senior citizens, and $9 for those 12 and younger. The musical, with book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Lowe, is based on “The Once and Future King,” T.H White’s iconic novel about King Arthur’s life and times. The original production – starring Julie Andrews as Guinevere, Richard Burton as King Arthur and Robert Goulet as Lancelot – debuted on Broadway in 1960. It ran for 873 performances and nabbed four Tony awards, spawning a 1967 movie version and many national tours and revivals. For

The play opens with Guinevere arriving in Camelot, come to marry Arthur. Through two acts it follows them and their relationships with Merlin, Lancelot, the Knights of the Round Table and Arthur’s power-hungry son Mordred to bittersweet finale.
