This Friday night will be a spectacular one for the little community of Calais! The annual Calais Lioness Christmas Parade will kick off many of the city’s festivities.
The parade will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Calais Motor Inn, proceeding through downtown with many entrants including the Calais High School Band and of course Santa riding with the Calais Fire Department—a highly anticipated sight. The parade will end at the triangle park where each child will have the opportunity to meet with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
All children in attendance will receive one of Mrs. Claus’ delicious cookies and be able to sign up for a chance to win one of four WalMart gift certificates, offered for free by the Calais Lioness. Parents will be pleased to also support the Calais 8th grade class by making a monetary donation for hot chocolate while waiting to meet with Santa.
The local stores throughout town will all be bustling as they stay open late offering their annual Moonlight Madness Sales. Shoppers will enjoy the savings while providing a much needed boost to the local economy. They may also take their gifts to CIA to be wrapped. There, members of the Calais Fire Department Association will be on hand raising money through the wrapping. The monies collected from the donations will be used for the Association’s general fund which helps in purchasing equipment, among other things.
Children with adults will also enjoy trolley rides throughout town, an event presented by the Calais Downtown Revitalization Coalition (CDRC) and Moose Island Trolley. Pick-up and drop off will be at the Wabanaki Cultural Center.
On Sunday, listeners can tune into WQDY 92.7 fm to hear the annual Calais Lions Santa’s Helper Program from 3:00 to 5:00. This event, now in its 42nd year, raises money to purchase items for many area families in need at Christmas time. Everyone is invited to stop by the Second Baptist Church to sing or play an instrument to be broadcast during the campaign. The show will conclude with a wonderful performance by the church’s choir.
