Melissa Wilkinson, Andrea Keeler and Adam Wilding volunteer at the Pine Tree Regional FIRST Robotics Competition held in Lewiston, ME.
Established 18 years ago, FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) seeks to inspire an appreciation of science and technology among young people, ultimately motivating them to pursue opportunities in science, technology and engineering. Teams of high school students were given only six weeks to design, build, program, and debug a robot using a standard kit of parts and following a common set of rules. The regional competition gave students the opportunity display their designs and compete in an event to measure the effectiveness of each robot and the power of team strategy/collaboration.
