The 9th Annual RIDE FOR LIFE, on September 7, 2013, benefits the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center and enables us to serve people and their families dealing with cancer in Washington and Hancock Counties. This year, there will be 8 mile, 20 mile, 50 mile, and 100 mile rides– so there is a ride for every bicycle riders’ ability level, and each ride has spectacular views of the Maine coast.
The RIDE FOR LIFE is becoming an event that riding enthusiasts look forward to. There are plenty of comfort stations, fruit, water, and other refreshments along each route. Each pre-registered rider receives a free t-shirt and free lobster roll, and there is live entertainment during the BBQ. All routes are well-marked, with signs at each turn, and our communications network allows us to keep track of all the riders out on the course. All rides are expected to be completed by 4:00 PM.
Registration begins at 7 a.m. The 100 mile race starts at 8 a.m., the 50 starts at 9 a.m., the 20 mile at 10 a.m. all at the Surry Elementary School. The 8 mile race begins at 10 a.m. at Newbury Neck Beach, where parking is available. BBQ and entertainment by the University of Maine Machias Ukulele Band start at 11:30 a.m. at the school.
Adult registration is $55 ($65 after August 30)
Youth registration (14-18) is $25 ($30 after August 30)
Children 13 and under ride for free but must have adult supervision
This year, we will be giving special recognition to teams of riders that raise at least $500. In addition, the team and an individual that collects the largest amount of money will be treated to a meal catered by the RIDE FOR LIFE planning committee. Please think about forming a team of about 5-10 people and then asking your friends and neighbors to pledge money to the Beth C. Wright Center to show their support for you and for people affected by cancer.
So, circle Saturday, September 7 on your calendar and plan on taking a great bike ride with beautiful scenery to benefit a great cause. Volunteers are also needed throughout the course.
