“The Belfast Centennial Celebration” video is the program for the Belfast Historical Society presentation at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 25, in the Abbott Room at the Belfast Free Library. For three days in August 1953, Belfast held a celebration commemorating one hundred years as a city. The festivities included a re-enactment of the acceptance of the 1853 city charter , with city council members in period dress, a grand and “mammoth” parade, a centennial costume ball held at the armory, a horse show and high school reunions. Film footage of the celebration was produced as a video production in 1990 with narration by then historical society president Basil Kinney.
