The Bath Area Family YMCA will hold its sseventh annual triathlon event on Sunday June 1, 2014. The local triathlon has become a popular race for folks of all ages to test their fitness levels in a competition that requires participants to complete swimming, biking, and running races in succession. All registrants will receive an ATAYNE high performance shirt made in the United States of recycled materials.
The Bath Area YMCA’s triathlon, dubbed the “Y-Tri”, will consist of a 525 yard swim in the Y pool, followed by a 10 mile bicycle race along Bath roads, and ending with a 5K ( 3.1 mile) run through the streets of Bath. The Y-Tri is considered a “sprint distance” triathlon. By comparison, the most challenging level of triathlon, the Ironman distance, consists of a 2.4 mile swim, followed by a 112 mile bike race, ending with a 26 mile run.
In addition to the “Y-Tri” the Y will offer a duathlon (5k run, 10 mile bike, 5k run); an aquabike (525 yard swim, 10 mile bike) a teen tri (125 yard swim, 2.75 mile bike, 1 mile run), and a Team Relay (Y-tri distances.)
