Bark for Life to benefit American Cancer Society

Posted June 07, 2013, at 11:14 a.m.

BANGOR, Maine —  Hollywood Casino Hotel and Raceway will host the second annual Bark for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society on Saturday, June 15, at the raceway. Registration will begin at 5 p.m. with the opening ceremony taking place at 5:30 p.m. Doggie sWAG bags to be handed out to the first 200 people. Unlike a traditional Relay for Life, this is not an overnight event.

“Hollywood Casino is proud to once again partner with this event to provide a venue that is family friendly — and pet friendly — for a great cause,” said John Osborne, general manager of Hollywood Casino. “Cancer is an awful disease that creates an endless number of problems for a lot of people. The good news is that we are seeing more and more cancer survivors at fundraisers like this, so we know that research is working. We’re looking forward to a great day at the track with lots of happy faces on both the people and the puppies taking part in this year’s Bark for Life.”

In its first year, the Greater Bangor Bark for Life collected more than $21,000 for the American Cancer Society. This year, Hollywood Casino again will donate use of the raceway for the event. The Bark for Life will feature events for both dogs and dog lovers, including pet photography, games, face-painting, washable tattoos for dogs, a traditional Luminaria Ceremony, honoring of cancer survivors and caregivers, Zumba, food, vendors and demonstrations.

Cancer survivors and caregivers will be encouraged to lead the ceremonial lap around the track, set to take place at approximately 7:30 p.m.

There is still time to register or join a team, or to make a donation by visiting relayforlife.org/barkbangor or e-mailing greaterbangorbark4life@gmail.com.
