Bangor optician earns national certification

Posted Aug. 15, 2014, at 11:01 a.m.

BANGOR, Maine — The American Board of Opticianry announced that Denys Facella, optician for optometrist Daniel N. Brooks of Bangor, has demonstrated the knowledge and skills necessary for the safe and effective practice of opticianry by passing the National Opticianry Competency Exam.

The NOCE is a job-related exam which accurately measures technical optical dispensing knowledge, and is administered nationwide on a biannual basis. 90 percent of states that license opticians use the NOCE as a written component of their licensing standards.

Certification by the ABO is the only nationally recognized voluntary credential for ophthalmic dispensers. The designations earned by this individual should be recognized as a measure of professional ability and distinction.
