BANGOR, Maine — Cancer patients from central, eastern, and northern Maine will benefit from the generosity of a local business. Lanham, Blackwell & Baber has announced its $10,000 sponsorship of the 2014 EMMC Champion the Cure Challenge, bringing the total raised to date for this year’s event to $200,000.

“Last year, we supported EMMC Champion the Cure Challenge because we lost our friend and partner, Samuel W. Lanham to cancer,” remarks Steven Blackwell, partner at Lanham, Blackwell & Baber. “This year we take up the challenge once again because we saw so many people at the event who truly believe, like we do, that we can make a difference.” Brett D. Baber, Lanham, Blackwell & Baber partner, continues, “There is power in numbers! Believe it! Together we will find a cure!”

Since 2010, local businesses and individual have raised more than $1.25 million for EMMC Champion the Cure Challenge, which benefits cancer research at EMMC Cancer Care. The event, which will be held Aug. 15 and 16, features a 1K family fun walk, 5K and 10K walk/run, 25, 50, and 100 mile bicycle rides, and a 50 mile motorcycle ride. Lanham, Blackwell & Baber has been named the 2014 Photo Booth Sponsor, joining Presenting Sponsor Lafayette Hotels and numerous other local sponsors.

“We are so grateful to Lanham, Blackwell & Baber for their continued support of EMMC Champion the Cure Challenge,” says Michael Crowley, president of EMMC Foundation. “Their dedication to fighting cancer is extraordinary.”
