BANGOR, Maine — Darling’s Auto Group, a long-time member of the local business community, announced their support Thursday for the 2014 Champion the Cure Challenge.
“Champion the Cure Challenge has been a great part of our community for the last four years, and while we’ve had employee teams participate as volunteers and participants, it seemed like a natural fit for us to increase our involvement this year,” said Geoff Johnson, general manager at Darling’s Honda Nissan Volvo, in a press release.
This year’s Champion the Cure Challenge, the fifth year of this annual fundraiser, will be held Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Lafayette Family Cancer Center in Brewer. The event offers participants the ability to walk, run, cycle, ride, sit or volunteer to help support local cancer research and EMMC’s fight against cancer. The 2013 event raised more than $485,000.
A check for $10,000 was presented to EMHS Foundation’s Philanthropy Project Manager Jeni Lloyd at
Darling’s Honda on Jan. 16.
“We are proud to be able to lend our support to this keystone event in our community,” said Lorilei Porter, a member of the Darling’s marketing department, in a press release. “Not only has the event grown tremendously in the last several years, all of the money stays local to help fund cancer prevention, something incredibly important to us, and we are hoping to inspire other donors and local businesses to get involved in this year’s event.”
Registration for this year’s event is open and sponsorships are still available. For information, visit www.ctcchallenge.org.
