BANGOR, Maine — James S. Nixon has been recommended by the judges of the United States District Court for the District of Maine for reappointment as National Criminal Justice Act Panel Representative for the District of Maine.
Nixon has served in that position since 2010 and his reappointment will extend his term through 2016. The national panel representative acts as a resource to all panel members in their defense of federal criminal cases and works with the Federal Defender for the District of Maine to assure competent representation of criminal defendants and to provide continuing legal education.
Nixon is a shareholder in the Bangor law firm Gross, Minsky & Mogul, P.A. His practice is concentrated in the areas of Commercial Transactions and Commercial and Criminal Litigation. He is a 1984 graduate of Waterville Senior High School, a 1988 graduate of the University of Maine, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and Latin and a 1994 graduate of The Columbus School of Law, The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. where he earned his Juris Doctor.
Nixon currently serves on the Maine Supreme Judicial Court’s Advisory Committee on the Rules of Civil Procedure and the United States District Court’s Local Rules Advisory Committee. Nixon is the former Secretary and Treasurer (2003), Vice President (2004) and President (2005) of the Penobscot County Bar.
