Bar Harbor, ME: Bring in your tired, poor dusty glasses yearning to breathe free. In anticipation of clearer skies, the Acadia Astronomical Society presents a telescope clinic and maintenance demo at the Jesup Memorial Library on Wednesday, June 11th at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome at this free event.
Experienced observers will gladly help you with your own underutilized telescopes and give pointers on how to put these back to work or how to get started exploring the night sky. This is also a great time to learn more about the library’s telescope, if you or your friends and neighbors have wanted to check it out but weren’t sure how to use it.
The Dobsonian telescope design is a very practical and affordable scope capable of excellent performance if properly aligned and maintained. During the clinic, members of the Society will take apart and work on this very popular and simple telescope, which is used by many amateur astronomers. They will also discuss and demonstrate when and how to clean your optics and how to align a Newtonian reflector (a/k/a the Dob).
