Gardiner, Maine – On Friday, August 10th from 5:30-9:00pm, over two dozen area artists will once again showcase their work in storefronts and studios up and down Water Street in Gardiner’s historic downtown. This lively celebration of art and community is free and open to the public, and is the second of three Artwalks that are taking place this year.
Now in its eighth consecutive year, Artwalk Gardiner was first launched in 2005 by the artists of Artdogs™ studios and a few other area artists. Comprised of a non-juried group of artists who live and/or work within a twenty-mile radius of downtown Gardiner, the mission of Artwalk Gardiner is to increase community awareness and appreciation of the visual arts, and to encourage interaction with local artists and the public by providing artists with a supportive network that fosters the creative economy. Since its inception, Artwalk Gardiner has drawn hundreds of appreciative visitors to Water Street to enjoy these festive evenings of great art and good cheer with area artists.
The August 10th Artwalk will feature work by artists Karen Adrienne, Nancy Barron, John Carnes, Matt Demers, Kala Ladenheim, Robert Lash, Peggy Cope Mascher, Allison Mckeen, Scott Minzy, Emily Naples, Donna Parkinson, Ellen Roberts, Tanya Russell, Robert Saunders, Judith Schuppien, Cecille Sirois, Jennifer Strode, Lori Watts, Barbra Whitten, Diana Willette, and Tina Wood. Hundreds of original works of art (including paintings, drawings, photographs, fine art prints, sculptures, and artist’s books) will be available to view and purchase, along with many fine crafts such as pottery, jewelry, woodcarvings, and textiles. Monkitree will feature an exhibit by Ruthanne Harrison entitled “Diving Through Layers: A Progression,” and the members of Circling the Square Fine Art Press will be showcasing a selection of fine art prints. Business sponsors and host venues for the evening include The Girltrend Shop, Lisa’s Legit Burritos, SaraSara’s, and Water Street Café. Free refreshments at many of the venues and live music at the Colab (Collaborative Community Space) by the Sweet Love house band will add to the fun!
