Art Opening May 3rd at Art Space Rockland

Posted April 11, 2013, at 9:05 p.m.

Art Space Gallery kicks off the 2013 Season with an opening reception featuring our new members on Friday, May 3rd from 5 to 8 p.m. Please join us in welcoming Allen David Bunker, Janalee Welch, and Charlene Vanderslice.

Allen David Bunker paints what he calls Landscape Allusions. The scene itself is not his real concern, but rather the feeling or emotion of the landscape.

His goal as an artist is to bring the viewer back to that feeling, whether it is intense and bold, or even perhaps cold and foreboding. These are all part of life’s emotions, and in his painting, he works to capture them all.

Janalee Welch paints her environment, landscapes, still lifes and interiors, using soft pastels on sanded paper. Her aim is to show the beauty of pastels as a painting medium as well as the beauty of the surroundings that are her subject matter.

She likes geometry, symmetry, pattern – details that make an object unique and sculptural. Using simplicity as an understatement, she hopes to evoke appreciation and joy.

Charlene “Sea” Vanderslice is inspired by her love for the ocean and its endangered creatures. She makes “Living Paintings” using 30% sea water as well as the power of embedded healing intentions in her watercolor paintings. Her goal is to help save the oceans, our planet’s most valuable resource. As a Water Advocate, 30% of her profits will go to the Marine Environmental Research Institute in Blue Hill, ME.

Our new members join returning Art Space Gallery artists: Susan Baines, Elizabeth Root Blackmer, Laurie Lofman Bellmore, Jill Caldwell, Charles Dufour, Sandra Dunn, Barbara Fischer Eldred, Lauren Gill, Judith Herman, Pamela Hetherly, Lydia Kaeyer, Penny Markley, Lara Max, Hannah Nelsbach, Kay Sullivan, and Joan Wright. The work of all member artists is on display throughout the gallery.

Art Space Gallery is located at 342 Main Street in Rockland, Maine. Gallery hours during the month of May are Fridays and Saturdays from 11 – 4. For more information on the Gallery and our artists, visit us at www.ArtSpaceMaine.com.
