The Belfast Garden Club awards $2,500 in scholarships annually. Awards are made to graduating high school seniors and college undergraduates from Waldo County pursuing studies in conservation, ecology, horticulture, natural resources, sustainable agriculture or a related field.
Founded in 1929, the Belfast Garden Club has promoted the beautification of Belfast through educational talks, garden tours, the annual Plant Sale in May, donations of books to local libraries and scholarships. Recipients of 2013 scholarships were Alexis Morse of Unity who is attending the University of New England studying biology and Erin Elizabeth Rollins of Lincolnville who is also studying biology at Husson University.
