APPEARING AS WORDS (bring your mobile devices!)

Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Location: Steel House, 711 Main St., Rockland, ME

Join us for a poetic experience unlike any other! Steel House’s Nathan Davis joins with poets Steve Benson of Blue Hill, ME and Lewis Freedman of Madison, WI for an evening of interactive and experimental poetry performance.

A collaboration between Davis and Freedman will involve audience members reading combinatorial poetry aloud from their smartphones, iPods, tablets, or other mobile devices, so please bring yours! Any mobile device with a web browser will do. We will have a limited number of devices to share. A laptop computer would also work, though it probably wouldn’t be as much fun. The Steel House desktop computers will be available in case we run out of mobile devices.

In a solo performance, Steve Benson plans to play off a changing visual word score everyone will be able to see in projection. (Steve has a long history of work with improvisational and mixed media poetry readings, much of it accessible on line in text or video.)

This will be a pay-what-you-want event. We’ll have an anonymous collection box, and you can contribute as much or as little as you like!
