The Maine chapter of The American Chestnut Foundation (TACF) will hold an informative workshop about its efforts to restore the American Chestnut to Maine’s forests at Merryspring Nature Center on Saturday, March 8 beginning at 9 a.m.
This free workshop will explore the chapter’s program to develop blight-resistant American Chestnut trees. The workshop will begin with a slideshow by Brian Roth, Associate Director of the Cooperative Forest Research Unit at University of Maine – Orono, and discussion about the importance of the American Chestnut, its decline, and research towards its return. After the presentation, attendees will head outside to view the Chestnut breeding orchard at Merryspring, followed by a car-trip to one of the newest Chestnut orchards in Hope.
This workshop is presented by the Small Woodlot Owners Association of Maine and is open to the public free of charge.
