Adopt A Stop in Portland helps keep city bus stops clear of snow, ice

Posted March 19, 2013, at 3:04 p.m.

PORTLAND, Maine — With a foot of snow expected in Portland Tuesday, no one wants to get caught in the snow waiting for the bus, which is why the City of Portland has partnered with the local volunteer program, Adopt-A-Stop.

Adopt-A-Stop coordinates volunteers willing to keep an adopted bus stop clear of snow and ice during the winter and debris during the warmer months.

With more than 850 bus stops in the Greater Portland area, volunteers are needed to help ensure access at stops so patrons can easily board the bus. Volunteers who sign-up to clear their neighborhood stop will be provided with a shovel. For more information or to volunteer, visitwww.adopt-a-stop.org.
