A Family Workshop to Build Your Own Bat House

Posted March 27, 2013, at 2:08 p.m.

Merryspring Nature Center will host a bat house-making workshop on Saturday, April 6 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon.

Mark King will lead this workshop that will consist of two parts. The beginning of the class will be a short presentation on issues currently facing bat populations in Maine. After the talk, participants will get to work building bat houses that can be set up in the backyard to protect and house local bats.

This workshop is a great opportunity for parents and children to work together in small teams. Power tools will be used in this workshop, so it is not recommended to bring very small children.

King holds a BA in Biology from the University of Maine and an MS in Zoology from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.

This class is part of the Weekend Workshop series at Merryspring, sponsored by Camden Real Estate. Materials will be donated by Rankin’s Building Supply. The cost is $20 for Merryspring members, $25 for non-members. Space is limited to 10 participants or small teams of no more than 3. Interested parties may sign up by contacting Merryspring at 236-2239 or info@merryspring.org.
