2013 honor parts for Stearns High School

MILLINOCKET, Maine — The honor parts for the Class of 2013 at Stearns High School have been announced as follows: Valedictorian Kristen Nicole Manzo, daughter of Steve & Melissa Manzo, plans to attend the University of Maine at Farmington majoring in Elementary Education with a minor in Art.

During high school, Kristen participated in softball, field hockey, math team, student council, show choir, Dirigo Girls State Delegate, Class Treasurer, and Studio One Dance.

Awards include highest honors, National Honor Society, MFHA All-State Academic Team, Phi Beta Kappa Award.

Salutatorian Alexandria Mooney, daughter of Patrick & Debbie Mooney, plans to attend the University of Maine majoring in Athletic Training.

During high school, Alex participated in student council, field hockey (captain), basketball (captain), softball (captain), math team, Class President, Studio One Dance and Junior Pro Basketball Coach & Referee.

Awards include National Honor Society, highest honors, Dirigo Girls State Delegate, Williams College Book Award, Eastern Maine Basketball Tournament All-Tourney Honorable Mention, PVC Basketball Honorable Mention, PVC Field Hockey All-Academic Team, PVC Field Hockey Second Team, MFHA All-Academic All-State, PVC Basketball All-Academic Team, PVC Basketball Third Team, McDonald’s All-Star and PVC Athlete Scholar.

Third in Class Stephanie Decker, daughter of Sharon Decker, is on a wait list at Bowdoin College. If not accepted, then she will attend the University of Maine majoring in Biology. She plans to apply for a transfer to Bowdoin College or Bates College in the fall of 2014 if she has to attend UMaine in the fall.

During high school, Stephanie participated in show choir, jazz band, fall musical, one act play, tennis, math team, Maine Summer Youth Music, Maine Youth Leadership Seminar/MYAN, MMEA All-State, District V Honors Festival, Studio One Dance and Upward Bound.

Awards include National Honor Society, highest honors, Best Overall Presentation at a STEM Symposium, multiple academic awards in English, Physical Science, Health, Biology, Anatomy, Advanced Biology and many more.

Fourth in Class Emily Louise Wark, daughter of Patricia Wark, plans to attend the University of Maine at Farmington majoring in Elementary Education.

During high school, Emily participated in student council, math team, field hockey, basketball, softball and Class Vice President.

Awards include National Honor Society, Dirigo Girl’s State Delegate, highest honors, MFHA All-Academic Team and All-Star Team, PVC Field Hockey First Team, PVC Basketball Athletic Award for Defense, Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award, Academic Excellence in: English, Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry, College Chemistry and College Biology.

Fifth in Class Tyson Girsa, son of Stephen & Debbie Girsa, plans to attend the University of Maine majoring in Mechanical Engineering.

During high school, Tyson participated in football, basketball, math team and Class Officer.

Awards include National Honor Society, highest honors, MPA Principal’s Award, LTC All-Academic Team (twice) and many academic excellence awards.
