HOWLAND, Maine — Principal Carol Marcinkus has announced honors parts for the Class of 2013 at Penobscot Valley High School.
Class Night will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, and the graduation ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, in the George Sereyko Memorial Gymnasium.
Kassandra Taylor, daughter of Scott and Dawn Taylor of Lincoln, has been named the Valedictorian for the Class of 2013. She will be attending Palm Beach Atlantic University majoring in Accounting.
Kassandra has participated in the National Honor Society, Math Team, Class Council, Soccer, Basketball and Tennis. She is a two-year Student Board representative and has been on the honor roll all four years.
She has received the following awards: Maine State Principals, Frederick Douglas and Susan B. Anthony, Phi Beta Kappa, Compassion, Achievement, Voice of Democracy, Rookie of the Year (Basketball and Tennis), MVP (Basketball), and PVC All-Academic.
Jaimie Gasch, daughter of Dolores Young and Michael Gasch of Enfield, has been named the Salutatorian of the Class of 2013. She will be attending the University of New England majoring in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program.
Jaimie has participated in National Honor Society, Math Team, Tennis and is a 4-H Youth Leader. She has served as Class Treasurer and has been on the honor roll all four years.
Danae Thompson, daughter of Chris and Laurie Thompson of Howland, has been named the First Honor Essayist. She will be attending Husson University majoring in the Occupational Therapy Program.
She has participated in National Honor Society, National Tech Honor Society and Class Council. She has also attended the PVHS Honors Banquet.
Danae has received the following awards and distinctions: Achievement, Excellence in Responsibility, Excellence in Medical Terminology, NPT Region III Outstanding Performance, Certified Nurses Assistant, Personal Support Specialist, Work Ready Credential, First Aid & CPR, Skills USA Maine Statesmen, Medical Terminology Skills USA, Region III Student of the Quarter and Region III Student of the Year. She will graduate with a Registered Medical Assistant Certification and Registered Phlebotomy Tech Certification.
Kayla Dube, daughter of Lawrence and Melinda Dube of Enfield, was named the Second Honor Essayist. She will be attending Husson University majoring in Nursing.
She has participated in The National Honor Society, National Tech Honor Society, Softball, Basketball and Soccer.
She has received the following awards: Student of the Quarter, Responsibility, Commitment to Success, Athlete of the Week three times and Softball MVP for four years.
Wade Thurlow, son of Grady and Mariea Thurlow, was named the Third Honor Essayist. He will be attending the University of Maine majoring in Mechanical Engineering.
He has participated in National Honor Society, Dirigo Boys State Delegate, Soccer, Baseball, Basketball and Tennis. He has served as Senior Class President.
Wade has received the Bausch and Lomb Award.
Robert Hallett, son of Howard B. Hallett and Nancy Boyer of Howland, will present the Class Gifts. He plans on attending Husson University majoring in Criminal Justice.
Griffin Libby, son of Keith Libby of Howland and Lisa Britton of Bangor, will present the Class Will. He will be attending the University of Maine majoring in Journalism.
Bethany Heald, daughter of Tina and Keith Heald of Enfield, will be presenting the Class Prophecy. She will be attending the University of Maine at Presque Isle majoring in Business Management.
Mark Houde, son Michael and Pamela Houde of Howland will read the Class History. He will be attending Region III in Lincoln as a post-graduate majoring in Informational Technology.
Justin Fisher, son of Michael and Michelle Fisher of Medford, will also be presenting Class Gifts. He will be attending the University of Maine majoring in Forestry Management.
