BELFAST, Maine — Galerie Dufour, 94 Main Street in Belfast, will host an opening reception for the 2011 Retrospective exhibition on Friday, December 2, beginning at 5:30 pm. Along with the five themed exhibitions of new works in 2011 at Galerie Dufour, the year-end exhibition also showcases photographs that have received awards and recognition in 2011.
The sometimes lush, sometimes stark landscapes and seascapes that define Maine were underscored in this year’s exhibitions, Coastal Curves, Dreams and Dreamers, Back to Basics, and Clothed Nudes. Perspective and figure-ground relationship were the subject in the exhibition Styx and Stones. Artist and gallery owner Charles Laurier Dufour explains, “I find the challenge of creating new works that fit within a single, unifying conceptual framework to be energizing.”
Several of Dufour’s works earned local and international recognition in 2011. Maine Art Scene selected one of Dufour’s images for its annual 2011 Statewide Multi-Disciplinary Juried Virtual Showcase. Another was selected in the juried 2011 Maine Photography Show sponsored by the Boothbay Region Art Foundation. Through the Lens, a juried statewide photography exhibition sponsored by Lewiston’s L/A Arts awarded a third place finish in the Black/White category for yet another one of Dufour’s fine art figure works. In October, four of Dufour’s photographs were among a select group of images placing in the top 8 percent among thousands of submissions from around the world in the 5th Annual Photography Masters Cup. Dufour had images nominated in the professional categories of Still Life, Wild Life, and Figure/Nude.
In addition to the fine art natural nude photography for which Galerie Dufour is recognized, visitors will also find numerous photographs of Belfast city and harbor, nearby lighthouses, and exceptional landscapes and seascapes. Galerie Dufour’s color and black and white photographs are presented in a variety of sizes to meet anyone’s gift needs and space requirements.
Galerie Dufour has extended seasonal hours Thursdays through Sundays. The 2011 Retrospective exhibition runs from December 2 through early January, 2012.
