Saturday, SEPTEMBER 13, the 10th Annual RIDE FOR LIFE will be held on the Blue Hill Peninsula. Starting in Surry, bicycle riders of all ages and levels are invited to ride the 8 mile, 20 mile, 50 mile, or 100 mile rides. With a cookout and entertainment after the ride for all volunteers and riders and a fabulous view of the coast on every ride, this is a not-to-be-missed event benefiting The Beth Wright Cancer Resource Center which provides information and support for people and families during and after their cancer journey.

New this year: ride 8 miles — or less! Do not let distance prevent participation! We love little children and new cyclists and older cyclists and anyone who dares to get on a bike and MOVE! So this year, bike just as far as you’d like: 2,000 feet or maybe 5,280 feet or anything up to 8 miles and beyond. And, as in past years, there will be plenty of comfort stations, with fruit, snacks, and water along all the routes. Well-marked signs at each turn and a communication system keep track of all riders assuring that everyone will enjoy a safe and fun ride.

Forming a team is another way to support the event. Teams can be of any number and any affiliation, and the team raising the most money is treated to a wonderful dinner held in their honor a few weeks after the RIDE.

We are able to keep registration costs down because of enthusiastic support for this event: Adult registration is $65. Youth registration (14-18) is $30. Children under 13 have no registration fee.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. The 100 mile race starts at 8 a.m., the 50 starts at 9 a.m., the 20 mile at 10 a.m. all at the Surry Elementary School. The 8 mile race begins at 10 a.m. at Newbury Neck Beach, where parking is available. BBQ and other activities start at 11 a.m. at the Surry Elementary School. Note: each pre-registered rider will receive a free t-shirt and lobster roll after the Ride

So, circle Saturday, September 13, and plan on taking a great bike ride with beautiful scenery to benefit a worthy cause. Volunteers are also needed throughout the course. To register or volunteer, call 664-0339 or go to www.bethwrightrideforlife.kintera.org. Hope to see you there!
