On the Issues

How do you propose the Legislature closes Maine’s budget gap?

Legislators should discontinue "you vote for my bill and I'll vote for yours" and stay focused on what is best for the people of Maine.

Do you think same-sex marriage should be legal in Maine?

Marriage is a church sacrament and the federal and state governments should not govern it.

Do you support school choice?

Competition stimulates creativity and excellence. Our students deserve no less.

Do you think Maine's school consolidation program has been successful?

It hasn’t shown to be beneficial to rural areas. It causes many students to spend more time on a bus than reasonable and savings are offset by fuel costs.

Do you think Maine should expand MaineCare as proposed by the president under the Affordable Care Act?

The government is too big and managing too much of states’ budgets as is. We don’t need more Federal mandates affecting taxpayers in the state.

What is the biggest thing Maine can do to attract more jobs to the state?

We need to provide our economic developers the tools they need to bring businesses to Maine and keep businesses in Maine. That will provide more jobs and less need for welfare programs.

Do you support lowering the state income tax? What state spending would you cut to make up for the loss of revenue?

Governor LePage is very astute and careful about how he is moving forward and I would support his initiatives.

Are Maine's public assistance benefits too generous? How should they be changed?

There are too many cases where duplicate benefits are paid to “merged families” and it makes working less lucrative than staying home. Our computer system should be able to identify duplicate addresses and investigate, for starters.

What should the state do to lower energy costs?

Windmills have not shown any savings to the taxpayers of Maine and to the contrary, good money after bad is spent “exploring”. If they haven’t proven themselves by now, they should be taken off the table. We know that nuclear power plants save costs, as well as solar.

Should Maine place more restrictions on abortion?

Taxpayers should not be funding abortions, either on a federal or state level. Unfortunately, abortion is used by too many as birth control.
