LUBEC — The Mary Potterton Memorial Concerts will present Andrea Maurer on flute/alto flute accompanied by Richard McIntyre on piano 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Congregational Christian Church of Lubec, 46 Main St.
Maurer was sponsored by The United States Information Service to perform in Mumbai, India. She was principal flute in the Birmingham-Bloomfield Symphony and the LA Korean Philharmonic and performed in the Pasadena Woodwind Quintet. Currently, Maurer performs with a number of professional orchestras and chamber ensembles in the mid-Atlantic region. She is a resident of Pennsylvania and Lubec. McIntyre has worked almost continuously as a church musician since the age of 16 and has served parishes in Massachusetts, Vermont, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He is currently the organist at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Pittstown, New Jersey. The evening’s music program will include works by Martin, McIntyre, Satie and Zyman.
Long time SummerKeys performer and teacher of organ and piano, Richard McIntyre is an accomplished composer and last year, wrote his second opera, “In A Grove,” which was extremely well received. We will hear the debut performance of his work, “Prelude and Fugue for Flute and Piano”, composed in the summer of 2018. Both pieces employ a mix of traditional and whole-tone scales, and the fugue subject loosely suggests a tone row, using all twelve chromatic pitches in a set order.
McFadden’s Variety will host intermission refreshments. Piano tuning donations are gratefully accepted. Intermission refreshments are provided by local businesses.
