BLUE HILL — The Shaw Institute will hold a talk “Dinosaur Wares: Extinction by Asteroid or Volcanism?” 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 55 Main St. With Gerta Keller, PhD, professor of Paleontology and Geology, Princeton University.
What extinguished the dinosaurs? Keller is at the heart of one of the most rancorous and longest-running controversies in science. The acclaimed paleontologist astonished the scientific world with fossil evidence that a series of massive volcanic eruptions was responsible, occurring much earlier than the single asteroid that hit the planet. Keller endured decades of ridicule until the international community eventually accepted her proof.
