Leading wildlife vet to speak about loon conservation and human health

HOLDEN — Dr. Mark Pokras, professor emeritus at Tufts University and founder of Tufts Center for Conservation Medicine, will be the featured speaker in a program entitled “A One Health Approach to Loon Conservation” 7 p.m. Friday, July 12, at the Fields Pond Audubon Center, 216 Fields Pond Road. The talk will focus on how human, environmental, and wildlife health are all connected.

Pokras has been researching mortality in loons since 1987 and is well-known for his work on lead poisoning in wildlife and public health.  He will be joined by Brooke Hafford MacDonald, PhD student and research assistant at the University of Maine.  For more information, or to register, please call the Fields Pond Audubon Center at 207-989-2591.
