In an effort to better understand and address the devastating frequency of Veteran suicides in the State of Maine and across the country, the VA Maine Healthcare System, Maine Vet Centers and the Maine Bureau of Veterans’ Services have come together to host the 1st Annual Military Veteran Symposium.

The Military Veteran Symposium will be held annually to provide a forum for in-depth discussions on issues related to the health and well-being of Veterans.

Recognizing the urgency of solving the complex issue of Veteran suicide, the VA Maine Healthcare System and Maine Bureau of Veterans’ Services will bring together a variety of federal, state, and local resources to focus on strategies to reduce the risk of Veteran suicide.

In addition to having personal messages from those impacted by suicide, the symposium will center on solving problems and enhancing competencies in the areas of cultural competency, barriers to care, and resources available from VA and community partners.

The symposium will include a keynote address by Thomas G. Bowman, Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs.

Our Veterans have given us their best; it’s our duty to give them ours. Be a part of the conversation and register today at Eventbrite.com.

Continuing Education Credits and Certificates of Attendance will be issued by Adcare. For those who cannot attend, the symposium will be streamed via Facebook Live at the University of Southern Maine’s Facebook Page.
