New senior living community recognized as “Business Attraction” by Development Council
FARMINGTON—Woodlands Memory Care of Farmington, a specialized assisted living community providing personal care, services and programming for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, was presented the “Business Attraction” award by the Greater Franklin Development Council (GFDC).
Woodlands Memory Care of Farmington, a memory care specific community owned and operated by Maine-based, family owned Woodlands Senior Living, was presented the award at the GFDC’s Investors Reception, an annual event which hosts and pays tribute to Franklin County businesses making noticeable, positive contributions to the county.
Woodlands Memory Care of Farmington, which opened in the fall of 2017, was one of three recipients recognized. Matthew Walters, an owner of Woodlands Senior Living, accepted the “Business Attraction” award on behalf of the organization.
“We are proud to be able to offer much needed residential memory care services to families in the Farmington area,” said Walters. “While also providing full time employment to a team of hard working, compassionate and responsible staff members who enjoy a career with purpose and professional growth potential.”
The Business Attraction award recognizes a company new to the greater Franklin County area that has made significant capital investment to provide jobs in a safe work environment with good wages and benefits, and who will be a good corporate citizen in the community and surrounding area.
“[Woodlands Senior Living President and CEO] Lon [Walters] and Matthew Walters saw a great need for elderly care, particularly memory care, in our community,” said GFDC Executive Director Charles Woodworth. “Not only have they filled a vital healthcare need, they are operating a self-supporting business that employs 25, and within the next year and a half will create 50-55 new jobs in phase two of the project. Ninety percent of these 75 to 80 jobs will be full-time.”
Woodlands Memory Care of Farmington is scheduled to open an expanded second phase, including a 58-bed assisted living residence featuring single and shared beds for both private pay and MaineCare residents, as well as 22 private upscale studio, 1- or 2-bedroom apartments with elected assisted living services in the fall of 2018. The expansion plans to serve the needs of aging Franklin County seniors and their loved ones, as well as to provide career opportunities for area residents.
