WISCASSET, Maine — Bands for Books, which will include hors d’oeuvres, cash bar and music, will be held 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, at Marianmade Farm, to benefit Wiscasset Public Library.
The event, organized by Friends of the Library, will include music by the 18-20-member band Opus One Big Band composed of music educators and performers from across Maine. The band has been playing for more than 20 years, and currently is under the direction of Dale Perkins. The concert in Wiscasset will feature big band and jazz music by artists such as Glenn Miller, John Coltrane, Wes Montgomery and Duke Ellington.
A silent auction will items such as include chimney cleaning, 18 holes of golf, an hour long scenic coastal flight for three persons, zumba lessons, house cleaning, homemade cake and scones, a story reading for children at a site of your choice, a book character named after you, a swim in a saltwater pool and a boat ride on the Sheepscot for two including picnic lunch. Well known local actress Suzanne Rankin will serve as master of ceremonies.
Marianmade Farm, a lavender farm bordering the Sheepscot River, is hosting the event. Prior to the event, tickets, at $20 per person, can be purchased at the Wiscasset Public Library, 21 High St., or at the Maine Coast Bookshop and Cafe in Damariscotta. They also will be available, at $25 per person, the night of the event at the entrance to the farm on 155 Federal St. in Wiscasset. All the monies collected will be used to benefit Wiscasset Public Library.
