The St. Croix District of the Garden Club Federation of Maine is offering a series of workshops focused on designing with and showing horticultural material. This is in anticipation of an informal horticultural show that will be organized for its Fall District Meeting to be hosted by the Bar Harbor Garden Club in Salisbury Cove on October 19. A more formal horticultural show will be mounted by the District in the Summer of 2013.

The remaining workshops in the series will take place in Ellsworth on July 21, August 18 and September 22, all from 9:00AM to noon. Its June workshop focused on the elements and principles of design as applied to Traditional American styles of arranging. In July the focus will be on Creative Design styles, including American Abstract styles. The August workshop will demonstrate the preparation of fruits, flowers and vegetables for prize winning entries in horticultural shows and fairs. The September workshop will focus on both functional and exhibition table designs. These are hands-on workshops in which participants have the chance to experiment on their own with what is being demonstrated.

The St. Croix District encompasses all federated garden clubs in Hancock and Washington counties, but these workshops will also be open to the public free of charge as long as space is available. Advance reservations are required, however. For reservations and more information contact Mary Blackstone, Director, St. Croix District of the Garden Club Federation of Maine, 667-8878, Mary.Blackstone@uregina.ca.
