MONTVILLE , Maine — Families and businesses in Southern Waldo County will have the chance to elect a proven community leader to the Maine House of Representatives who will fight for critical reforms that create new jobs and opportunities for generations of Mainers.

Peter Weston, long-time Waldo County teacher and principal, has launched his campaign to represent District 96 in the Maine House of Representatives. Weston, whose wife, Carol, is a former Waldo County State Senator, launched his campaign with a very clear platform of smaller, smarter government; welfare integrity and student-centered schools.

“Our community is filled with hard-working folks of every age who are doing their best to get ahead and make a better life for themselves and their families,” Weston said. “Our policies should celebrate their hard work and determination and make it easier for families and businesses to succeed. If we encourage the spirit of freedom and independence our community was built upon, I know we can get Maine working again.”

Weston, who grew up on a small Aroostook County farm, moved to Montville with his wife shortly after they married 44 years ago where the couple raised their two children, Eliot and Elizabeth. He has a 40-year career as a Waldo County educator—13 years as a classroom teacher and 27 as a principal—and previously served as an After School Program Director and as past board chair for the Kennebec Consortium for School Administrators.

His platform reflects his commitment to tearing down barriers that block people from getting ahead, whether that be from high taxes and burdensome red tape, a broken welfare system that traps parents and children in poverty, or a one-size-fits-all public education that holds our kids back.

“People are tired of paying more and getting less,” Weston explained. “More government is not a solution. More freedom for families and businesses will get Maine back on track. There is so much potential for greatness throughout our state and I want to work with the people in our community to remove the obstacles and government intrusion that have prevented us from unleashing that potential.”

House District 96 includes the Waldo County towns of Belmont, Liberty, Lincolnville, Montville, Morrill, Palermo and Searsmont. Peter Weston can be reached at paweston96@gmail.com.
