Join the Downeast Lakes Land Trust for its 10th Annual West Grand Lake Races! Canoes, kayaks, paddle boats, war canoes, dragon boats, and paddle boards. If it is powered by human muscles and seaworthy, come out and race it, while exploring the southern end of West Grand Lake. All Registrations will be only $10 per person. This includes the event, lunch, and a shirt!
Races are available for competitive paddlers or relaxed family outings – including courses of 12, 6, or 4 miles, or a 1/3 mile kids race. All three courses start and finish in the village of Grand Lake Stream and are round trips around islands in West Grand Lake – paddlers will enjoy seeing some of the undeveloped shoreline of the land trust’s 33,708-acre Farm Cove Community Forest, and their current conservation effort, the West Grand Lake Community Forest project on the east shore of the lake. Grand Lake Stream has numerous attractive lodging options, and makes a great getaway destination, 2 hours east from Bangor. Camping is available on the Downeast Lakes Water Trail or within a few miles of the village in the Machias River Maine Public Reserved Lands.
This fun community event attracts local participants and kayakers and canoeists from throughout Maine and beyond. Grand Lake Lodge hosts a cookout for all participants after the race.
Registration is from 9:15 to 10:15 am at the boat landing at the west side of the Grand Lake Stream dam on Shaw Street in Grand Lake Stream.
