BANGOR, Maine — On Friday, Oct. 25, there will be a volunteer, community cleanup of the area in Bangor known as “The Pines.” This has been scheduled to coincide with United Way of Eastern Maine’s Days of Caring and the USA Today’s “National Make a Difference Day.”

This project, jointly led by the City of Bangor, Hope House, and the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter, seeks to rid almost 50 acres of woodlands of debris accumulated over many years.  The general idea is to restore a natural area owned by the city.

Many organizations and businesses are contributing to the event including City departments, Bangor Gas, Maine Department of Transportation, Maine Department of Corrections, University of Maine Surveying Engineering Technology, Sam’s Club, Penobscot Job Corps Academy, Casella Waste Management, and the Federal Aviation Administration.

Additional volunteers are needed, and anyone interested may call Hope House at 217-6713 and ask for Bruce Hews, or the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter.
