Views from Quoddy Head State Park

Quoddy Head State Park is one of the most beautiful locations in Downeast Maine.
The views of the Bay of Fundy and Gulf of Maine from Quoddy Head State Park are expansive, tranquil and breathtaking.
Some of the highest occurring tides prevail along these bold shorelines. The ocean waters are constantly in movement day and night.

I have watched strong cross currents just this side of Sail Rock as they become turbulent during tidal shifts.
Surface water movements simultaneously compete with deeper ones which make for interesting patterns.

When extreme weather conditions occur the ocean comes alive, towering swells lifting, deep troughs receding,
rhythmically. The raging seas can run in excess of 20 feet, easily sweeping over and obscuring Sail Rock and everything
in between with unrelenting power and force.
The distant ocean horizon can resembles rolling white crested hills as nature and seas interact violently.

It can be quite a challenge to photograph here and stay safe during severe storm conditions.
I do have to say though, it is a definite adrenaline rush,…….for this guy.

There are unique methods of photographing the moving ocean which go beyond what the eye alone can see.
Silky ethereal effects with dream like qualities can be created during camera exposure. Using these techniques opens up entire new options for creative composition and artistic expression.

In todays post, a series of images all relating to water movement are shown, some techniques are familiar ones and others have that ethereal quality I mention above.

I always hope readers enjoy the photography I present here. The world around us is too wondrous and beautiful a gift to
not take the time to see, share and appreciate it with others. Being a creative person, it’s only natural for me to try and visually touch others through what I see through the camera.

It’s highly unlikely I’ll ever exhaust the photographic possibilities for new and interesting images at this location.
It’s an honor to share with readers some of the images from this personal project I work on as my time permits.

Till the next time, I hope you enjoy Views from Quoddy Head State Park in Lubec, Maine.
