On Sunday, May 26, the John Street United Methodist Church, 98 John Street, Camden, will recognize Peace and Justice Sunday, as designated by the United Methodist General Board of Church and Society to witness God’s demand for a faithful, just, disarmed and secure world. On this day, the church will be taking a special collection to further the world-wide reach of this program that has awarded $48,000 to 14 ministries in 2013. Applicants for grants must work toward achieving objectives such as promoting just national and international policies and actions and efforts to end conflicts and violent aggression around the world.
Local active and retired armed services men and women and their families are invited to the church’s worship service at 10:30 am where they will be honored. Bill Cross of Rockport and Mary-Lou Lundy of Camden will each relate their experiences during the time they participated in conflicts to protect the freedom of our country.
The congregation will have an opportunity to personally thank the soldiers, sailors, airmen and coast guards during a catered luncheon following worship. The community is invited to attend to pay tribute to the vets.
For more information please call the church at 236-4829.
