ELLSWORTH, Maine — Patricia Selig has been appointed to the position of director of the Hancock County Higher Education Center  in Ellsworth. Selig brings a wealth of experience in higher education, having worked at Wor-Wic Community College in Maryland as Chair of the Human Services Department, Distance Education Fellow, and Associate Professor of Social Science.

Selig joins HCHEC, University College’s Outreach Center in Ellsworth, to replace former Director Bonnie Sparks, who will take up new responsibilities as Executive Director of University College and Distance Education. Sparks has served as director of HCHEC since 1989.

“Patti Selig brings many years of experience on both the academic and student service sides of higher education,” said Sparks. “In addition, she is a successful small business owner.  This combination of skills and expertise will be an asset to the Hancock County Higher Education Center, allowing her to bring new ideas and new ways of delivering services and programs to our students and to the local community.“

Selig will leverage her experience and expertise to further HCHEC’s mission of providing access to higher education to the people of Hancock County and to encourage and support them in reaching their academic goals.

“I strongly believe that post- secondary education and training are the most important factors in promoting successful employment for the people of Hancock County,” Selig said. “I look forward to working with University College as we provide local access to advanced education for all of our community members.”
