United States Power Squadrons ‘Partner in Command’ seminar at Surry

SURRY — Penobscot Bay Sail and Power Squadron will present the United States Power Squadrons’ “Partner in Command” seminar at 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, June 23, at The Gatherings, 1208 Surry Road.

The seminar will be of interest to boat crew members or passengers who want to know the essential skills involved in operating a recreational boat safely, including how to respond in an emergency. Concisely covered will be an introduction to boating, understanding anchoring, docking, and navigation, preparing for bad weather, first aid and on-board emergencies, and more. Included are communications and VHF marine radio use, calling for help, signaling equipment, safety and safety equipment, first aid, starting and running the engine.

The instructor is Dr. Robert Newman, PhD.of Surry, a longtime sail and power boater. Course fee is $23 for nonmembers and $13 for members, which includes a course book. Attendees also are asked to make a donation to The Gatherings for use of the facility.
