From left to right. Carolyn Stocker, Meaghan Brown, and Christiana Dagher, student researchers in Human Nutrition at the University of Maine, practice measuring their heights in preparation for measuring children for the iCook project.

Researchers at the University of Maine are offering 9-10 year old children and the adult in their household, who is the main preparer of food, the opportunity to participate in the iCook project. Enrollment has begun for the 2-year study about how families who cook, eat and are physically active together can contribute to healthy weights in children and build lifestyle skills that will last as they grow into adulthood. Children will have height, weight, waist, and blood pressure measured and answer a survey 4 times over the next 2 years. Half of the children and adults will be offered a series of classes during the fall. Locations for the project will be in the Ellsworth and Bangor areas. For more information, call 581-3315.
