Small Maine churches are back in style, thanks in part to the Sovereign Series of novels by Troy farmer, author and itinerant Quaker minister Jennifer Wixson. Set in the mythical small town of Sovereign (which lies somewhere between Troy and Dixmont on Route 9), the novels are narrated by the fictitious minister of the little white church.

Readers around the country are loving this quirky series of novels—-both of the books currently published are pulling down nearly a 5-star rating on Amazon.
On Thursday July 18th (6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.) the Troy Union Church will be hosting Wixson in a fundraising event for their Steeple Fund. Wixson will be reading from her just-published Book 2, “Peas, Beans & Corn” (White Wave, June 2013). Autographed copies of both books (“Peas, Beans & Corn” and “Hens & Chickens”) will be available for sale and $5 from the sale of each book will be donated to the fund raising efforts to restore the historic steeple at this little white community church.

During the evening event, Wixson will also talk about what’s coming next down the back road in the Sovereign Series. She’s already working on Book 3, “The Songbird of Sovereign” (due out next year) and Book 4, “The Minister’s Daughter” (coming in 2015). Wixson says she’s also planning a cookbook, “The Sovereign Series Cookbook” (also for 2015).

Book 2, “Peas, Beans & Corn,” tells the story of a Maine Army Guardsman who returns to Sovereign with the secret dream of restarting the town’s old sweet corn canning factory. Wixson reports that there is lots of fun history in the novel, as well as a good love story or two.

If you can’t make the July 18th event, you can pick up an autographed copy of “Peas, Beans & Corn” at the Troy General Store and $5 will still be donated to the church. The retail price is $16.95. Visit http://www.thesovereignseries.com/ for the latest on Wixson’s Sovereign Series of novels.

Come have a good evening out this summer, and support your local church at the same time! Church member Norma Rossel will bring everyone up-to-date on the church’s Steeple Fund efforts. For more information on that, please go to http://troyunionchurch.org/
The July 18th event is free, open to everyone AND refreshments will be served!
