THOMASTON —Trekkers, a Thomaston-based youth mentoring organization, received a generous donation from the Rockland Hannaford Supermarket as part of the store’s grand reopening celebration on June 15. Don Carpenter, Executive Director of Trekkers, accepted the $2,000 check from Store Manager Tim Grasse and Community Relations Manager Kathryn Anderson.
“This gift couldn’t have come at a better time for our organization,” said Carpenter in a recent press release. “Trekkers will soon be completing the third year of a six-year expansion that’s increasing the number of students that we serve. The generous donation from the Rockland Hannaford Supermarket will be used to help Trekkers connect even more young people with caring mentors from the community. It will also give more students the opportunity to participate in our educational expeditions. We are truly grateful to Tim and Kathryn and all the folks at Hannaford for supporting our students, our organization and our community through this generous donation.”
Hannaford Supermarkets recently completed an improvement project at its Rockland store, adding new equipment, expanding the pharmacy waiting area, and increasing the variety of products offered, including more natural, organic and gluten-free products. At the store’s grand reopening last month, the store hosted a day-long celebration with drawings, prizes, activities and the presentation of donations to several community groups.
As for giving to local charities, Hannaford Supermarkets has a tradition of supporting the towns and cities where it does business, providing resources, donations and sponsorships to local schools, community groups and charitable organizations like Trekkers.
