Trekkers is pleased to announce that Makaila Hickey has joined the Board of Directors as its newest student board member.

Makaila is a Junior at Oceanside High School and joined the program during her freshman year. She is currently a student leader for the eighth grade Team Albatross. In her time apart from Trekkers, she loves to do yoga, play field hockey for her high school and for Bates’ AAU team, and participate in school activities like Student Government, Prom Committee and Key Club. She is so excited to be a part of the Trekkers board as she has been interested in being in the position since her start in Trekkers. She is mostly excited to be able to share her opinions with the board and be able to give back to Trekkers,  the program that gave so much to her.

Currently celebrating its 24th year of working with local youth, Trekkers connects young people with caring adults through expeditionary learning, community service and adventure-based education. This year, the organization will serve more than 240 youth and involve more than 100 adult mentors from the communities of Cushing, Owls Head, Rockland, South Thomaston, St. George and Thomaston. For more information about Trekkers, visit www.trekkers.org or call (207) 594-5095.
