The University of Maine Hutchinson Center will be offering the popular three-credit college course, PAX 452: Advance Study in Transformative Mediation, which deepens one’s understanding of the principles of the transformative orientation to meditation practice, and builds on the teachings of PAX 451.

The course will begin on Monday, April 16th and continues through Friday, April 20th. The class will run from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm each day with a break for lunch. Will Galloway, respected mediator in the midcoast community and long term peace studies instructor will be teaching this course at the UMaine Hutchinson Center in Belfast. Mediation is about conflict and resolution, and is individualized to each situation. Some people choose mediation as a way to resolve a difficult situation; others use it to begin a difficult conversation. Students will deepen their understanding of the premises and principles of the transformative orientation to mediation practice. They will consider how values and belief systems impact the development of mediation models or schools of thought.

The course introduces students to the theory and practice of mediation and provides skill development through intensive coaching. Participants will reflect together on the nature and origins of conflict and its impact on society and individuals. Students will acquire and practice the skills needed for effective conflict management, which are applicable to most professional fields as well as everyday life.
