Traditional Greek Taverna food returns to Maine with the opening of Taverna Khione in Brunswick

After nearly 3 years away from the state of Maine Marc Provencher has brought his authentic Greek taverna food back to Maine and specifically back the town of Brunswick where it all began in 2010.  Many of you will remember Trattoria Athena and it’s location at 25 Mill st in Brunswick. A cozy Greek/Italian spot that had many fans of its lamb chops and grilled octopus.

At the end of 2014 Marc sold the Trattoria and established a successful restaurant in Vermont, (called Taverna Khione- Khione being the goddess of snow), doing an all Greek menu with an all Greek wine list. In the summer of 2017 the landlord of 25 Mill st reached out to Marc and expressed interest in having him come back. It wasn’t long after the initial contact that the Taverna in Vermont opened back on Mill St in Brunswick.

We feature an all Greek menu that is very local and seasonal, so it does change often, with many of the farms from the Mid-Coast being well represented. Dishes include grilled octopus, lamb chops, tzatziki, taramosalata, baklava and of course ouzo and metaxa to wash them down. We also have many local beers on draft and one of the largest all Greek wine lists in the country in which we were recognized for in Wine & Spirits Magazine in August 2016. We are open Tuesday-Saturday from 5pm-9pm. Reservations are recommended. We are a small 30 seat Taverna so we tend to fill up easily. Our phone number is 406-2847.
