Jay Friedlander, College of the Atlantic’s Sharpe-McNally Chair of Green and Socially Responsible Business, will be an instructor in the Corporate Sustainability Leadership Program. This innovative program, which will be held April 2-4, 2014, is a partnership between New Hampshire Businesses for Social Responsibility (NHBSR) and the Peter T. Paul College of Business and Economics and the Sustainability Institute, both at University of New Hampshire (UNH).

“The program is based on the core premise rapidly being adopted by leading global companies that businesses can continue to drive profitable growth for the shareholders while also helping address some of the major challenges we face as a society by incorporating sustainability concepts into their core business strategy and operations,” said Fiona Wilson, faculty director for the program and assistant professor of strategy, sustainability and social entrepreneurship at Paul College.

The program pairs academic faculty with sustainability business leaders to deliver a cutting edge, highly practical curriculum covering such topics as materiality: understanding vulnerability and building resilience, new strategic approaches to connecting business success to environmental and societal progress, making the business case for sustainability, life cycle thinking, strategic community engagement, and sustainability accounting and reporting.

Participants will:

–Gain an understanding and awareness of sustainability issues related to the business environment
–Develop holistic systems thinking skills
–Gain practical information, resources, contacts and tools on sustainability to put into practice upon their return to the workplace
–Learn how leading businesses are implementing sustainability initiatives
