Stephen Cirone receives MPA Principal’s Award

JONESPORT – Stephen Cirone of Jonesport, a senior at Jonesport-Beals High School, has been selected to receive the 2019 Principal’s Award, Principal Michael Kelley announced today.  The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.

In announcing this award, Principal Kelley said, “Stephen Cirone is an outstanding student at Jonesport-Beals High School and will graduate at the top of the class in June.  He is a focused young man committed to academic achievement. Stephen is a member of the National Honor Society, and has been on the Honor Roll, achieving High Honors, every quarter since entering J-BHS.  Stephen has displayed many leadership qualities at J-BHS serving as the class president, representing J-BHS at the Maine Youth Leadership Conference in 2017, and attending Dirigo Boys’ State in 2018. He was also selected as the DAR Good Citizen Award candidate. Stephen has participated in the Jonesport-Beals sports programs participating in basketball and baseball.  As a school leader and positive role model for J-BHS, Stephen serves as a mentor for elementary students. He is very deserving of this honor.”

Stephen, Mr. Kelley and other award winners and their principals will attend an Honors Luncheon at the Jeff’s Catering in Bangor on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 12:30 p.m.

The Honors Luncheon recognizes these outstanding students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of $1,000 scholarships in the names of Horace O. McGowan and Richard W. Tyler.  Mr. McGowan and Mr. Tyler were former Maine principals and executive directors of the Association. This year and additional five $1,000 scholarships will be presented through the efforts of the MPA Scholarship Golf Tournament and support from Berlin City Auto.

The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine’s school administrators.
